Mari Liggett
Domestic Utopias
Mari Liggett (nee Sakamoto) was born in Hokkaido Japan in 1948. In 1967 She came to the UK after studying fashion in Japan.
Mari is an Anglo/Japanese visual artist who has lived and worked in the UK for over 40 years.
This Installation: 'Domestic Utopias', re-contextualises part of the Artists home collection of plants and artefacts, juxtaposing these with a series of Photo-montaged works centred around metaphorical landscapes which evoke childhood memories of an enchanted world.
Central to each image is the Artists family. Within each work pictures from the family album are narratively arranged and set amongst recurring themes of woodland creatures and verdant vegetation.
